Composite Bonding

Treatments

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a quick, minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses tooth-coloured composite resin to reshape and improve your teeth. It can close small gaps, repair chips, even out worn or uneven edges and improve the shape of small teeth – usually without any drilling and without injections.

What can composite bonding improve?

  • Chipped or broken edges
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Worn or uneven teeth
  • Small or misshapen teeth
  • Minor discolouration
  • Teeth that look slightly out of line

The injection moulding technique

At Maria White Dental, composite bonding is provided by Dr Agustina Ferrante Aguilar, who uses the injection moulding technique. Instead of building the composite up freehand, your new smile is first designed digitally. A clear, custom-made mould of that design is then placed over your teeth and warmed composite is injected into it, so the final shape matches the planned smile precisely.

  • Predictable, symmetrical results that match your approved design
  • Natural tooth anatomy and smooth, polished surfaces
  • Several teeth can be treated in one visit
  • The mould can be kept for easy repairs in the future

Your composite bonding journey

  1. Smile consultation – we check the health of your teeth and gums, discuss what you would like to change and take photographs and a digital scan.
  2. Smile design – your new tooth shapes are planned digitally so you can see and approve them. Teeth whitening is often recommended first, as composite does not change colour with whitening.
  3. Bonding appointment – the teeth are cleaned and prepared, the clear mould is placed and composite is injected and set with a curing light.
  4. Finishing – excess material is removed and the teeth are polished to a natural shine.
  5. Review – we check your bite and polish the bonding again if needed.

Benefits of composite bonding

  • Usually no drilling and no injections
  • Reversible and repairable
  • Often completed in one or two visits
  • More affordable than porcelain veneers
  • Natural-looking results

Looking after your bonding

Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth, limit tea, coffee, red wine and smoking, which can stain composite over time, avoid biting very hard objects, and attend regular hygiene visits to keep the bonding polished. Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Frequently asked questions

How long does composite bonding last?
With good care, composite bonding commonly lasts around 5 to 7 years, and it can be repaired or re-polished when needed.

Does composite bonding damage my teeth?
No. In most cases composite is added to the tooth without removing healthy tooth structure.

Is composite bonding painful?
Most patients need no anaesthetic at all, as there is usually no drilling.

Composite bonding or veneers – which is better?
Bonding is quicker, more conservative and lower cost; porcelain veneers are more stain-resistant and can last longer. We will help you decide at your consultation.

How much does composite bonding cost?
The cost depends on the number of teeth treated. Please see our Fees page or ask for a personalised quote.
